Code on the Go (CoGo™) was updated on September 29, 2026 to 26.40.
IMPORTANT: Migrate Existing Projects to Use the New Toolchain
In release 26.38, we upgraded the CoGo toolchain. Learn about the new features.
If you install today’s release (26.40) without migrating projects built in 26.37 or earlier, those projects may fail to build. The steps to migrate projects are covered in this migration guide.
- If you already migrated your projects, no action is needed.
- If you haven’t migrated your projects, follow the steps in this migration guide. This video explains the migration procedure.
If you do not want to migrate your projects at this time, release 26.37 is still available on the download page. It is the last release that uses the old toolchain. None of the new features introduced in 26.38 and beyond are supported. We strongly recommend that you plan to migrate your existing projects soon.
NEW: Kotlin debugger is now available!
We are very happy to announce that this release includes an on-device debugger for Kotlin projects. The steps to enable the debugger are the same in Kotlin as they are in Java.
- On your device, enable Android’s developer options. (In Settings, find the build number and tap it seven times.)
- In CoGo, tap the Debugger icon. A dialog box explaining the pairing process will be displayed.
- At the bottom of the dialog box, tap Start pairing. The Android Developer options page will be displayed with a notification that Code on the Go is searching for a pairing service. The notification will disappear in a few seconds. This behavior is expected and you can continue the pairing process.
- Scroll to the Wireless debugging item. If it’s not enabled, tap the switch to enable it.
- To the left of the switch, tap the text Wireless debugging (not the switch). A page of wireless debugging options will be displayed.
- Tap Pair device with pairing code. A dialog box that contains a six-digit code will be displayed, and the device will search for a pairing service.
- When “Pairing service found” is displayed, tap Enter pairing code. A field to enter the code will be displayed.
- Enter the displayed six-digit code, and press the Send button next to the field. (The button may vary depending on your device.)
When “Pairing successful” is displayed, use the device’s back button or the arrow at the upper-left of the page to return to your project.
To set breakpoints in the code editor, tap a line number. When the line number has a red background, the breakpoint is set. Then, build, install, and launch a debug version of your app. Use the debugger toolbar and debugger panel to inspect your app.
NEW: Improved UX for Finding Add-ons
We’re happy to announce an improved interface for searching and downloading add-ons like plugins, templates, snippets, and code actions. You can search and sort by tags, type, community- vs ADFA-developed, and more. You can go directly to addons.appdevforall.org or visit appdevforall.org/addons for the link as well as information about installing and creating add-ons.
Other Fixes and Improvements
- The Compose Preview plugin now works consistently.
- The Snippets plugin now works correctly in Kotlin projects.
- Other changes to reduce application size and improve performance.
Introducing Knowledge to Go (K2Go™)
App Dev for All is proud to announce of Knowledge to Go (K2Go™), a free and open-source Android application that transforms virtually any Android phone (including older 32-bit devices) into an offline content server capable of sharing educational, medical, and technical resources with anyone nearby over local Wi-Fi. No internet access, specialty hardware, or technical expertise is required.
K2Go can be cloned directly to another Android phone, empowering people to bring the K2Go content (including Code on the Go) back to their homes and communities on their existing devices. Learn more at appdevforall.org/knowledgetogo.
